http://jezebel.com/tag/whitewashing/

We see beautiful women on the covers if magazines, but they each have something in common. Over time society has depicted the image of a woman and have grown to believe that for women to be considered "beautiful" they must look a certain way. For example, many of these women are thin and have a womanly body. Society has labeled "beauty" with these categories and at times don't realize the real beauty within a woman. Another thing is how many woman and young girls become so self-consious. Women and girls are exposed to seeing images of other woman in which they are labeled as "beautiful, gorgeous, and sexy" which causes many to want to look a certain way to therefore feel better about themselves. Lastly, the exposure of woman in such a way can cause society to look at women differently. With woman like the one's presented society is focusing mainly on the physical appearance and seems as though what is in the inside doesn't matter at all. Woman are all different, which is what makes them unique but society has given a new meaning to the word "beauty" to represent woman.

http://hypebeast.com/2010/08/stickers-punk-rock-contemporary-art/

Contemporary art and design have become a way for artists and designers to challenge the the modern ways, this is referred to as "Postmodernism". This image caught my attention due to the emphasis placed on stickers. These stickers are being placed throughout the city and are therefore creating a sense of layering. The image also uses both text and image to give new meaning. Stickers vary from images, to text, or both and in this case they use both. Another thing that can be shown with this image are hybridity and representin'. When it comes to hybridity the stickers are being used once again using different media and expressing it by placing them on random places where they are not expected to be. Representin' can also be shown due the normal everyday objects with the exception that they now have stickers placed on them. Overall, stickers have gone from something fun as children to something that has gained much meaning over time being placed throughout everyday places to create a new awarness of the so called modern ways.

This was my first quarter of Art since the 8th grade, and I've learned a lot from it. In this first quarter we've done many projects and assignments that have been very fun as well. The sketchbooks have allowed me to express myself through art so far. The bell ringers have given me a better understanding of what the days lesson will be about. There have been several projects, one of which includes the process of making an Accordion Book. Through notes, art, and projects the Accordion Book has helped me understand many things. One of the main things that I've learned during the first quarter was the 7 Principles and 7 Elements of Art. Art has now become much more meaningful to me and I know that with time it'll get better and funner.

Post #7 "My little Accordion Book" =D

In my little Accordion Book all the elements and principles come together as a team.
I've learned several things about the process of book making. This experience has taught me that bookmaking takes patience, creativity, and enthusiasm.
Several things were very fun but the thing I enjoyed the most was the process, as well as the experience I gained from it. Let me not forget that I really enjoyed being able to combine several shapes, colors, and lines to form my creation.
The thing I found most challenging was creating my poem because I'm not very poetic and having to include the 14 words of the 7 principles and elements was a very difficult task as well.
If I was to create another book I would take my time and use both my experience and creativity to go beyond what I created in my last book! :)

This book caught my attention for several reasons. First of all, its an accordion book, just like the one we've been working on in art. The way the book falls into place was also very intriguing. But, I'd have to say the drawing of what seems to be a tree brought this handmade book to a closure. I admire the creativity and the work that the artist put to complete this. I'd say a job well done!(:

Christmas Art: Picasso Nativity
Picasso Nativity

This painting caught my attention by the various colors, lines, and shapes that are used together in order to form unity. The colors and their intensity make the drawing stand out some more. The lines, and various shapes help create texture, and some type of movement as well. I think the artist is trying to show how colors, and shapes can come together in a unique way. If I could ask the artist anything it would be: What was the motivation behind this picture?

mandala:
Yab Yum (Tibetan Buddhist symbol of cosmic wholeness)

The image shown above caught my attention due to several things. The principles and elements of art played a key role toward the importance of my choice in this image. The elements I chose were color, and line. Color because it en focuses on the three elements of color as well such as the hue, intensity, and value. There are different colors, that range in intensity. I also chose line because there are lines coming out from the image, to show some type of movement. Now when it comes to the principles of art I chose emphasis and unity. This image emphasizes a lot on colors, as well as the image in the center showing a man and a woman expressing their "love" for each other. Lastly, unity brings all the elements and principles to complete the image, and make it much more meaningful.

Christina Ramberg
America, 1946-1995
Loose Beauty, 1973

Loose Beauty is an acrylic painting created in 1973 by Christina Ramberg. The painting takes part here in the Art Institute Of Chicago. The painting has two parts to it, focusing on the body of a woman. A women's beauty is usually categorized by their appearance, in this case the body. Here we are presented with the front and back side of the womanly figure. With the title "Loose beauty" and referring to the image I believe that it could mean a beautiful woman is also categorized by weight. But, the word "loose" can also be referring to the loose parts of the intimate clothing as well. The painting makes me think of the way women and beauty is portrayed.
If I could ask Christina Ramberg something I would ask: What inspired you to draw this? Why the title "Loose beauty"? and What message are you trying to give us with your work?

The article entitled "Race and Gender Criticism" helped support the fact that race and gender have always played a big issue in society. Every human has a creative impulse that allows them to create some form of art, regardless of their gender, race, or beliefs. In the article they speak women not being taken seriously when it comes to art. Women were being treated as a object rather than a subject in art works. Often the work done by a different gender or race is seen as "sexist", "racist", and "stereotypical". I believe that these things are something we as a society must go through to learn from the mistakes made in the past. This might be wrong but, as a growing society we must make changes for the best and move on. We learn from those mistakes, and are becoming much more accepting to people of different backgrounds and cultures through one common thing, art.

My introduction to art. (:

I remember being a elementary school student. Walking into art class knowing what to expect. I believed art was all about drawing, coloring, cutting things, and painting. But going in depth I began to discover a new world of art, I realized there was more to art than I expected. Our first projects were simple coloring and drawing. But i remember this one project that i loved. I received a piece of paper like no other, it was black on one side and very colorful on the other. We were not going to be using a pencil, marker or crayon for this we received a stick. Careful with your next moves because if you mess up there's no going back, undo, or erase. I remember drawing my family playing outside. I remember liking my work very much not only because it was my drawing but also due to the way it came out thank to the colorful paper. The outcome couldn't of have been better! :D
