Loose Beauty, 1973

Loose Beauty is an acrylic painting created in 1973 by Christina Ramberg. The painting takes part here in the Art Institute Of Chicago. The painting has two parts to it, focusing on the body of a woman. A women's beauty is usually categorized by their appearance, in this case the body. Here we are presented with the front and back side of the womanly figure. With the title "Loose beauty" and referring to the image I believe that it could mean a beautiful woman is also categorized by weight. But, the word "loose" can also be referring to the loose parts of the intimate clothing as well. The painting makes me think of the way women and beauty is portrayed.
If I could ask Christina Ramberg something I would ask: What inspired you to draw this? Why the title "Loose beauty"? and What message are you trying to give us with your work?

The article entitled "Race and Gender Criticism" helped support the fact that race and gender have always played a big issue in society. Every human has a creative impulse that allows them to create some form of art, regardless of their gender, race, or beliefs. In the article they speak women not being taken seriously when it comes to art. Women were being treated as a object rather than a subject in art works. Often the work done by a different gender or race is seen as "sexist", "racist", and "stereotypical". I believe that these things are something we as a society must go through to learn from the mistakes made in the past. This might be wrong but, as a growing society we must make changes for the best and move on. We learn from those mistakes, and are becoming much more accepting to people of different backgrounds and cultures through one common thing, art.

My introduction to art. (:

I remember being a elementary school student. Walking into art class knowing what to expect. I believed art was all about drawing, coloring, cutting things, and painting. But going in depth I began to discover a new world of art, I realized there was more to art than I expected. Our first projects were simple coloring and drawing. But i remember this one project that i loved. I received a piece of paper like no other, it was black on one side and very colorful on the other. We were not going to be using a pencil, marker or crayon for this we received a stick. Careful with your next moves because if you mess up there's no going back, undo, or erase. I remember drawing my family playing outside. I remember liking my work very much not only because it was my drawing but also due to the way it came out thank to the colorful paper. The outcome couldn't of have been better! :D
